The Power of Intention Setting

"When you have clarity of intention, the universe conspires with you to make it happen." ~ Fabienne Fredrickson

I hope you enjoyed my last article where I shared how intention is very different from setting a goal.

If you missed it, here's a quick recap: Intention is who you want to be, not what you want to do. Intentions are goals set from the heart, not the mind.

Why set an intention?

The act of intention setting is a special time for reflection – to sit quietly with yourself and honor whatever comes up, let go of the busyness and tune into the space within.

Intention setting helps you connect with the most important relationship in your life – You. It also allows you to reach your goals because, without an intention, the goal will become lost in the busyness of life.

Creating a daily practice of setting heart-based intentions has many benefits:

  • It allows you to align with your true self and honors your needs and wishes
  • It enhances your intuition and builds your trust in you
  • It opens you up to be open to change and embrace new possibilities
  • It helps you prioritize what really matters most to you
  • It shifts the focus from your head to your heart

How to create a daily intention-setting practice

I recommend setting your intention daily when you first open your eyes in the morning. In the first moments of the day, we are given the gift of a fresh start, with no interruptions – it's simply a possibility. Have a pen and notepad handy.

Once you have awakened, settled into your breath and grabbed your pen, ask yourself the following:

What do I want from my day?
What do I want to bring to my day?
What are my needs or desires?
What kind of energy do I wish to attract?
What kind of energy do I want to send out into the world?

From your answers, craft your intention. Write it as a statement starting with "I intend."

Here's an example: "I intend to have a pleasant day, getting all things done in a timely manner, taking time for myself, attracting kindness and sharing it too!"

Remember, your intention is unique to you and can be anything big or small. Make sure to keep your intention where you'll see it throughout the day, as it's a quick reinforcement to the brain.

Make intention setting a practice. Take the time for yourself every day. Honor what comes up and give it the charge to make positive changes in your life!

I am sending oodles of good intentions your way!
